Priscilla "Degua" Woods is an abstract and impressionist artist, lyricist and writer. A native of Northern Indiana, she listened to the classical music of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Mozart in her early years. She also discovered that she loved to paint at an early age and later sold many of her pieces of art. She lost her husband to death in 2002 and wrote the poem "Heaven Cries When A Good Man Dies," commemorating his life and death, and she later created a painting to memorialize his funeral. She and Delores Hershey then collaborated in 2005 to create the lyrics and song "Heaven Cries When A Good Man Dies," which has been heard by thousands and is now called the Soldiers Song. Priscilla has received awards from all the military services and a Medal for Valor from a US Army M.A.S.H. unit for the song.
Priscilla continues to paint and write poetry, lyrics and books, and she supports our troops through the world-wide ARMAD organization.
A sample of Priscilla's poetry follows. She wrote this in honor of all our fallen soldiers and read this poem in a live worldwide broadcast in honor of them on Military Appreciation Day 2007. Her song "Heaven Cries When a Good Man Dies" was also broadcast worldwide on 911 in honor of all those brave men and women we have lost. It was played at the closing of Military Appreciation Day of 2007 and 2008 to honor our fallen soldiers. The song now is being played in memory of all good men at their funerals, and it brings comfort to all who hear it. Priscilla's hope is that someday she will get it to a famous recording artist who will let the world be comforted with its message.

A sample of Priscilla's poetry
From her book Storms of Emotion
A Man Walked
I came across a man who walked for miles
He always looked down
He never smiled
Sometimes I would pass him in his walk
I would say “hello” and he would just nod
He never spoke
One bright, sunny day I decided to join him in his walk
I wondered why he never talked
As our steps became as one his head went up
There I saw in his eyes pain so great and yet there was a light shinning upon his face
And from his lips a little smile
He began to walk at a faster pace
I kept up and he said, “Why are you not running away?”
That took me by surprise and I said, “I just wanted to walk with you for a mile
He said, “Thank you, son. This means a lot.
I once had a son
He was just about your age.
His eyes were blue just like yours.
We used to play a lot, and he liked to walk.
That’s when we had time to converse and talk
Then one day he went off to war
At that moment he stopped his walk
His head went down and he didn’t talk
He patted me on the shoulder and walked away.
However, from that day forward I joined him in his walk, and I learned a lot as we talked.
Then one rainy day as we walked my new friend said,
“Son, I have wondered why you like to walk.”
With teary eyes I looked at him
“You see sir I too lost my best friend.
We used to walk, and he would hold my hand.
He, too, went off to war and I never saw him again.”
“Who was that son?” he asked of me
In reply I said to him
“That was my father
He was a great man.”
He just nodded and looked down
There was no need to talk
We understood
And we kept walking in the pouring rain
Happy to have a friend to walk with again
